Joomla 1.6.4 - security release

Joomla 1.6.4 - security release

Yesterday the Joomla Project has provided availability of Joomla 1.6.4. This security release corrects four security issues and fixes an issue relating to version upgrades. Note that the upgrade to version 1.6.4 should be done before upgrading to version 1.7.0 (due out in July).

Important Note: A security fix was made for the Category List layouts for articles, contacts, newsfeeds, and weblinks as well as the Featured Contact list. If you have created a template override for one of these layouts based on the core layout, your file could contain this security issue.

Upgrading from Joomla 1.6 to Joomla 1.7 will be relatively easy. You will just use the Extension Manager just like you would upgrade from, for example, Joomla 1.6.2 to 1.6.3. This feature is not available for the alpha version of Joomla 1.7.

If you are using Joomla 1.5 then you will still be required to migrate your site using the jUpgrade component. When Joomla 1.7 GA is released you will be able to migrate directly from Joomla 1.5 straight to Joomla 1.7 (you can conveniently skip migrating to Joomla 1.6).

After two trials "kicking the tires" of Joomla CMS 1.6, I've yet to really jump on board and haven't been using this yet. I know, when it slows down I'll be doing that SOON and really will need to get new clients under 1.6 instead of the old safety-net of 1.5.

My question is, if 1.7 is do out SOON... Will I need to upgrade 1.5 clients to 1.6 before I go to 1.7?? Or will there be an upgrade path straight to 1.7?

    Thanks
