I installed my website ( ghafla.co.ke ) using the world news 2 Joomla 1.7 quickstart package, and ever since I changed the template away from the world news 2, Google and Bing have not indexed my homepage. I have checked robots.txt and it's not blocked, my homepage contains text information mainly, and I have canonically redirected all versions of my homepage.

So could there be some way in which my homepage is being blocked? Perhaps something specific to the quickstart installation I did? Please inspect my website ( ghafla.co.ke ) and tell me what the problem could be.

No there is no option that any code in the template can block search engines ? Did you try to switch to Beez and check results ?

That would be a bit drastic, as it would take a while to get the results of that test, and my website has 1 million users who would throw a fit.

I've made some changes, and now at least Bing has indexed my homepage. I'll wait a few days and see whether Google does it as well.

This is probably search engines issue, you don't change anything in SEO settings like key phrases, SEF URL's etc. ? It doesn't look like problem related with the template or extensions but site configuration or maybe just google blocks your site in their engine.
