when I have a user login to the site the topbar "wiki, login, signup" menu displays twice side by side just below the topbar. One has the user options i.e. profile page dropdown selections and the other is the public version of the user menu. The only changes I've made to the site was to add code to force login on the read more button to the content_item, user, and generic php files under template, html, default. gk_register is published and allow registration in user configuration is set to yes.

joomla 2.5.9 with K2 version 2.6.5, and GameNews template on Gavern v. 3.8. I've added feedgator to pull RSS feeds. Other than that the site is the standard quickstart package.

Any thoughts?

see attached image. I'm working locally so no public URL for viewing the site.

Thanks!

Hi,
I checked quickstart and it is ok. Please check in modules list if you don't have menu published twice in this position. Or if you editing something in layouts/default.php you didn't copy code or something like that.

found it! the user menu was enabled twice. Once for public and once for registered. I don't remember doing that!

thanks for the second set of eyes. I looked everywhere and couldn't find the problem.

another quick question. is it possible to remove the sign up button and change login to my account after a successful login?

Unfrotunrtly no. It is joomla menu item so please check if there is some 3rd party extensions which allow you to change item title when you are logged in.
