Hoi,
we talk about K2 items or standard articles?
Joomla by default for date-time uses DATE_FORMAT_LC2 format, which is defined on language file:
language\en-GB\en-GB.ini
or/and
language\en-GB\en-GB.com_k2.ini

you can change ther to use instead month names just numbers, basic change, based on php default date-time strings
