module position outside of the template

Hello
I would like to add new module position right outside of the template.
I've read through this tutorial "ADDING A NEW MODULE POSITION".
It describes only positions in the template does not out, can someone tell me where I start the code?

Where, how and why are you thinking of creating a module position "outside" of the template? What are you trying to do . . . ?

OK, but where exactly . . . you say outside of the template . . . but do you mean to the edge of the page for example? Normally you'd add a new div just after the opening body tag and you can then adjust your css to suit.

If so, it's still within the "template" just not within the main part of the template. If you are looking for some kind of banner management also then a google search will find what you need, it should be fairly simple.
