Confirm Security Exception

I am testing my clients website http://www.stylenouveau.co.za
However, when I try to check out, I get a page asking me to confirm a security exception (please see screenshot attached).

Why would this be happening? and how can I fix it?

This is normal. You have a virtuemart installed and configured to use a secured conection https:// so You can just agree to use this certification or remove secure connection in virtuemart configuration.

What is the downside to removing the secure connection in VM config?

Informations will not be secured, but if You will use a paypal for example for money transactions than it's gonna use their security, so only client informations as address may be in danger.

my client is in talks at the moment with a company who is setting up a Virtuemart plugin so that she can accept credit cards.
So if I have no security in Joomla, this will mean then that the credit cards are at risk?

All depends how this plugins are build. VM is secured already, but of course using a secured connection is making it much safer.
