Does the quickstart actually work?

Please point me in the direction of the quickstart for this template that actually has been tested and works. I really just need a functional version of this template coupled with VM.

I have just downloaded the quickstart and installed it without any issues. VM is included.

even when you try to add a new product?

What kind of issue should I be aware of? Please describe what you have found, then I'll be able to check whats the problem's source.
