Cannot remove Categories

Sooo I manually installed this and I have been configuring the theme just fine. But I when I add GK Tabs I, Latest Stories, the categories keep on showing up. I have removed {CATEGORY} from Format under Article Layout in the NSP Widget but they keep on showing up. I just want to remove the categories from showing up on the main page since a lot of my posts go in many different categories and then the main page looks ugly. I have also tried different browsers and operating systems and the same result happens.
