How to use Menu Module ID Override

Hi,

I have been trying to add a new menu button (calendar) on the frontpage for days, but can't seem to figure out how it works. When i add a button, I can't seem to get the link to work!
I don't seem to understand how the mechanics work of this menu in relation to the override in the template settings.
Any help much appreciated

On top of that is it also possible to link to an article instead of a module???
