htaccess file wrong

I have the problem that when I change the htaccess.txt (and switching the joomla rewrite use on YES- changing into .htaccess) that I get an error message and my whole website is gone. I'm a bit helpless - because I never had this problem with my other gavick templates ...

do you have a solution?

This file is a clean code from joomla installation itself. It has not been modified by us in any way. Are You sure server supports mod_rewrite to use this file?
