Date Format on Header Module Questions

Hello, I cannot seem to get the date format to be MM/DD/YYYY in the main module for the header. The one that is for reservations. It's stuck in DD/MM/YYYY format. How do I switch this?

I'm also looking to put a black transparent rectangle behind the text in the header module because the photos I have are light in color and it makes the text very difficult to read. How do I do this?
