I was trying to update my template "news" to the latest Joomla release, without affecting my site (newspaper), specially with my k2 articles (1500) , so I'm including the information you request:

If you want to upgrade Joomla! you should use live update via Joomla! administrator panel and then update template to latest version available in our download area.
