Login Problems

I'm posting this in the General Discussion forum because I just can't be sure if it's a template issue or something else. Anyway, following is the description I sent in via the ticket system. So far the problem is still unresolved. This is not a complaint because unfortunately this is one of those very difficult problems that may not appear on all PC's. But I have three PC's that all experience the problem to varying degrees. So I thought I'd post it here in the forums to see if anybody else may have experienced similar issues or may have some insight or ideas. Here ya go...

I'm having a serious problem with the login process. Worst part is, it's somewhat erratic and unpredictable. I've referred it to my consultant, who has not found a solution but believes it may be related to a javascript conflict of some sort with the template. He suggested I describe the problem to you, so here is the problem as best I can describe. Most of the following is copied from my description to my consultant...

* I frequently get nothing but a page regen when I try to login. The "login" link is still there. Usually even clearing all my caches and temp files, etc. doesn't correct it. Sometimes if I log out (of my windows account) it will then work, although none of these steps is consistently reliable. I've checked the backend to see if the username was logged in and it is not. It's as if I didn't try to login at all.

* After I first installed the Memovie template, when I clicked on the "Login" link, I would get just a black box, which kind of dropped down, where you logged in. Now I get a new page generated with the login stuff on the left and a keychain image on the right. The problems with the login process and the change in windows seems related somehow.

* Like I said in the previous bullet, when I click on the "Login" link, I now get a new page with the login stuff on the left and the keychain image on the right. But, if I click on the same (original) "Login" link again, the black login box I used to get all the time appears. Somehow it almost seems like two different login processes are intermingling. Using either login area gets the same results.

* I THINK that the login/logout redirects for the two login screens may be different. It sure seems like two different login processes are getting mixed somehow.

* This last one seems to me like it could be a particular significant clue: When I check the "Remember Me" box, the login works just fine. (I don't know that it actually remembers anything...but the login/logout process consistently works.) I've tried it numerous times now and it's worked every time so far. And when I don't check the box, it doesn't work, I simply get the screen refresh with the "Login" link still there as described above.

Just in case it matters, the login-related procedures (registration, invalid userid/password messages, lost password, etc.) are working fine, so I'm not looking for a major change to the login module or anything. (At least yet...heheh.) But I'd sure like to clean up this serious problem somehow.
