Non K2 menus and article layouts not working?

Hello,

My site is a mix of K2 items and categories and Joomla articles and menus etc.

I'm trying to create a News item page with the News articles (Joomla articles) listed in blog format but I can't get Section or Category Blog layout to work as a Menu item.

When I select Section or Category Blog, the huge K2 item date icon/image shows up next to each article in the listing and it's bizarrely showing the modified date and not the created date even if I change it in the settings. And I can't seem to find a setting to not show the big Date thing.. Even if I set both Created and Modified Date to Hide, it's still there.

Any tips?
