disable main menu in Party Freak

Hi Any help would be greatly appreciated

I need to disable the main menu on the home page only - I've made a copy of the template to enable me to doe this but I'm not sure how to stop the mainmenu from showing as it's not in a module position - I've tried adding

#gk-nav {
display:none;
}

to the template file as has been suggested but didn't work - any ideas?
