Joomla 2.5 installation guide

Let trace process of installing the latest version of Joomla! 1.7/2.5.

After downloading the source page from joomla.org you will get a ZIP file – there are several ways you can approach the installation. One of the oldest methods encouraged to unpack the archive on your local disk and then copied via FTP the extracted folders and files on the server. Unfortunately, this process is burdened with two failures: copying hundreds of files takes quite a while, some hosting in rush hour it can take nearly an hour. Secondly, there is a risk that some file is missing, or what options you activate inadvertently pennies to copied files converting file names to lower case, which is a reprehensible error.

The result is that yes we have all the files, but because due to the characteristics of the server, some files will not be recognized by CMS as the source code appear with a capital letter. This is the case of language files – both the English and all others that can use Joomla! regardless of versions.

I personally use very fast – Greek method – here at once to explain this is due to the fact that in Greece was created Akeeba Backup component for performing backups and Akeeba Kickstart script – which is able to unpack the archive on another server with a. JPA or popular. ZIP. Both tools can be downloaded for free from the manufacturer: akeebabackup.com. Especially the latter will be useful to you in preparation for installation.

Now, copy to your server file “Joomla_1.7.0-Stable-Full_Package.zip” and extracted kickstart.php and en-GB.kickstart.ini. Note, copy the file to your server, even a large one will take you much less time than several hundred individual. Once all three files will be fully copied into the address bar, type: http://your-page.com/kickstart.php. In this way, you run the installer. When you see a white page with the information “Things You Should ….” You can click the ESC key.

In the Archive file – you should see the file name ie “Joomla_1.7 … ..”. For security, you can increase the time in the Maximum execution time of the default 5 seconds for operations to 9 seconds. Now, just click the big green Start button. Now let the installer to unpack the files and prepare the installation, during those few seconds, close the window, or change your bookmarks. When you are greeted by the next green button “Run the Installer” you can be sure that half of the road behind you now. Now only seven quick steps ahead.

Note: Remember to turn off for installation time AdBlocker (content filtering plug-in) if you have it installed in Firefox. Otherwise JS scripts can be blocked and you will not be able to move successfully into the second stage.

The second step is used informing and do some checkings , because Joomla requires that specific software versions be installed and loaded on your web server. The correct settings cause that no box is not highlighted in red. In general, only the Display Errors box – is set to On (enabled), but I just do not have to worry too much and you can safely proceed. The next window is a license, you must accept by clicking again, Next button.

Almost the most important shall be a stage the fourth, in this step you configure the database connection. Define how to handle database – Older MySQL or MySQLi Newest and quicker. Only correctly typed data existing empty database best guarantee correct installation Joomla. Before installing Joomla, you need to create a database and a database user with full privileges.

One of the frequently asked question is “Is it possible for one database to have some Joomla!” – The answer is positive, you can. For this purpose, each installation must have it’s individual prefix for database tables and other installation files must be in a folder other than the first. However, due to performance and security is not recommended to keep more than two independent sites on one common database.

In most cases, another fifth stage can quickly jump, because if the FTP settings in general you’ll need to make CMS administration panel. In addition, usually no need to use this option.

In the sixth, the window installer (main configuration) Configure basic information for the site administrator (enter your login, password and e-mail address) and give the page title. Interestingly, in Joomla! 1.5 was not possible at this stage to change the default username of “admin” and unfortunately, what some people now continue to use it, which negatively affects the security of the system. At this point you can load sample data to help you familiarize yourself with the structure and capabilities of the system. Of course, these data you can later delete or replace them to enter their information. Certainly, if this is your first installation you can load these data, the next time you will probably no longer need them.

At last, the seventh stage you need to delete the installation directory. Click the Remove Installation folder button. Only then you will be able to go both to the main page and backends of Joomla! 1.7. Use the button, then the installer will attempt to either remove this installation folder. If the script does not do it for you, you will need to do this using an FTP client. And this way you have installed one of the most powerful and popular CMS.
