K2 extension items vs Standard Articles in Joomla 3.x
Many people ask us: “What to choose K2 or Joomla 3.x Standard Content” ? There’s really no right answer to this question, it depends what features you really need.
Since Joomla! 3.x became stable version it almost “kill” K2 component, because now it have the Tags feature – controlled via the Tags component. I’ve made small comparison (advantages/disadvantages) of features of both K2 (getk2.org) and Joomla 3.x.
|Feature||Joomla 3.3||K2 component|
|Import||There is no need||K2 has an import feature, one click and it automatically converts the sections/categories and articles to categories and items, without any changes to your original content. But don’t have option to export to standard articles.|
|Comments||None, but you can install additional the component or plugin also with FB comments features||K2 have built-in commenting system will either work for all users or registered only.|
|Images & Quality||You can add images via editor or Images & Links sidebar. Your images will have this same quality as uploaded images. It means that When preparing images to upload, you should always resize the image to be either the exact size or a few pixels larger than its dimensions on your website.||Uploaded item images are auto-resized to 6 configurable dimensions, either globally or per category. You can also set quality of generated thumbs. Images are click-able to whole article.|
|Sub-templates for categories||none||yes, K2 gives you the possibility to create separate layouts per category. You are able to create as many templates as you want and assign them to various categories.|
|Extra Fields in the articles||none||yes|
|Social sharing||none, you’ve to install a plugin||yes|
|Profile page for authors||none||yes|
|Front-end submission with access controls||yes||yes,
