Which image? In MY Cart text there is no image Could you mark on screenshot which part you mean?

I would like to know the proper way of placing an image next to the text Basket

This probably may be only done by custom template modifications. The buttons are located in template/layouts/default.php file so there in area of cart button you need to add your own <img> tag.
