Remove Index.php from url

I read a lot of articles and did my search but still i coludn't remove index.php from the website.

In your admin to go Global Configuration, SEO Settings and set Use URL rewriting to Yes
Then through ftp make sure you rename htacess.txt to .htaccess
Then through ftp make sure you rename htacess.txt to .htaccess

there is already a file called .htaccess
