template column parameters

Hi There,

Below is a printscreen from game mag template. I wonder how does the % works to divide the space between them? The default configuration was over 200% after sum them up.

It is also different from the documentation indicated. The document mention I can choose between % or px

i have install a fresh template and notice the display between IE 9 and firefox 11 seems different
Am I the only one encounter this? Both my browsers are on the latest version.
Or there is some configuration in the template that is only specific just to certain browser?
