Hello,
I would like to add advertisement in upper area of the page. Please see the screenshot - green area represents place where I want to add my own custom html text.
How to do this?

Hi,
you can add new module position and publish custom html module in this position. Here you have link how add new position in joomla 1.5 http://docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_add_a ... osition%3F Layout elements you will find in layouts folder. Here defaul.php is default view which include blocks from blocks folder.
