More and more people pay for content

A year after the introduction of fees for their digital content, “The New York Times” has 454 000 people paying for subscriptions. Newspaper announced the reduction by half the number of items which you can read for free.

“The New York Times” offers three subscription options, in which the access to digital content of the newspaper you have to pay from 15 to 35 dollars per month (99 cents for the first four weeks).

Fees were introduced a year ago, a few days ago, “The New York Times” had to 454 thousand paying subscribers.

“The New York Times” introduces a new business model on the internet. Currently, Internet users can NYTimes.com monthly service for free read 20 articles. Since April this limit will be reduced to 10 free articles a month.

But as for now, users who enter the articles in the NYTimes.com click on links in e-mail, search engines, blogs and social networks (Facebook, Twitter), will be able to read even after exceeding the monthly limit. Free remains the section “Top News” applications “The New York Times” on smart phones and tablets (in the promotion of reading from mobile devices).

It does not change the situation of people using a paper edition of the newspaper subscription. They remain free, unlimited access to the NYTimes.com site and all contents in mobile applications.

There are also additional benefits: Digital subscribers receive access to the New York Times archives, including 100 free articles from 1923 through 1986 every four weeks.
